3. Simon Peter saith unto them, I go a fishing. They say unto him, We also go with thee. They went forth, and entered into a ship immediately; and that night they caught nothing.
1 Corinthians 15:55-57
The Gospels are silent about the happenings on the sabbath day after Christ was crucified. It will be interesting to check the pulse of the disciples on that fateful day. Their Master had just been crucified, dead and buried. Even though the Lord already told them how things would be, yet they were naturally distraught and therefore downcast. No wonder Peter felt like returning to that trade which he forsook to follow Christ. He was not alone in that decision; all the others decided to follow suit.
Many are times when things appear not to be the way we thought it should be. At such times, we feel defeated and assume the enemy has won. Like Peter and his friends, the tendency is to throw in the towel. Meanwhile, the Lord is not done with us yet, no matter what we experience. It was at the time everyone was resting and observing the sabbath that the victory over death and hades was being established. For, when Christ came out of the grave and declared that all power in heaven and earth had been given to Him, the fete was done on that day when all heads were bowed assuming all was lost.
The Lord has word for us today: no matter how dark the situation appears to be right now; it is only the time before dawn. Yes, it may appear like there has been a defeat, please do not lose hope for it is he who smiles last that smiles best. It was after the encounter in hell on the sabbath that Christ was given a name above every other name. Those that had gone back to fishing were eventually restored into joy, fishing for men. The Lord wants us to rejoice despite the seeming situation. Let us not lose hope but rejoice ahead of the dawn that is about to show forth.
Please pray:
Thank you, father for the hope of a better tomorrow. Please let the weight of defeat and despair be taken away from our shoulders by the power in your name. Let everything that makes any of our heads bowed today give way in no time for real celebration and rejoicing, in Jesus’ name. Please do not allow the devil to take the victory over our lives ever, in Jesus’ name.
Please share with others. God bless you.
