29. But this I say, brethren, the time is short: it remaineth, that both they that have wives be as though they had none;
Romans 13:11-14
The return of the Lord is imminent. If we do understand the times, everyone would strive the best they can to keep in tune and be ready for the Lord rather than engage in the things of life which seem ordinarily normal to mankind, some of which we even claim, albeit wrongly, that the Lord gave to us. If only we can have our inner sights lightened, then shall we set aside every weight that may hinder our flight with the Lord and concentrate mainly on making the flight.
There were ten virgins that Christ spoke about in scripture. They awaited the coming of the bridegroom. Were all the virgins to be bride to the groom? It will appear not; but that their qualification as bride’s maids was first their virginity and then their right standing at the appearing of the groom. Marriage is good particularly when the bed is undefiled. The institution today, has been so desecrated to the extent that almost there is hardly a spouse that trusts or can vouch for the other. Paul admonishes that to meet with the bridegroom, it is better in our waiting for those that be married to be as though they are not. It follows therefore that, at this crucial moment, if it is your right eye that will prevent you from making it, “pluck” it out.
Today, the Lord’s counsel to us is to be steadfast, immovable so that we would not be found wanting when the Lord shall appear. Let not the misbehavior of a spouse cause you to offend God. With God, no excuse is excusable: you are either in the right or you are not. Eve pushed Adam into the fire but that did not absolve Adam of the blame. Be absolutely focused in the journey to the place the Lord has prepared for us. Do not allow yourself to be tied down with such issue as pleasing your spouse at the expense of Christ. Yes, marriage is honorable and important if we are in it. And hardly can anyone who fails in marriage make heaven. But, being married is no ticket to heaven.
Please pray:
Thank you, father, for the institution of marriage that you prepared for us. Please help to keep us faithful in our marriages in Jesus’ name. Whatever it is we need to do to fulfil purpose in you, do not allow unwieldy marriage issues to debar any of us from fulfilling it, in Jesus’ name. Let us be ready and fully prepared for you at your appearing to take us home, dear Lord, in Jesus’ name. Lord, let this day be a beautiful one in all our marriages in Jesus’ name.
Please share with others. God bless you.
