The Place For Treasures

Writer's picture: Jide OlaoreJide Olaore

Focus: Matthew 6:19-21 - KJV

19. Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: 20. But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: 21. For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

1 Timothy 6:9-10,17-19

There are three categories of people upon the earth: the fool, the greedy and the wise. The fool is one who folds his hands and expects that, like the Israelites’ wilderness days, manna would fall from heaven; the greedy is one who spends his life and time acquiring material wealth without a thought for God. His happiness and peace are hinged on the sums he acquires. When anything happens to what he acquires, it affects his peace and he is never contented. The wise is one who acquires wealth with one hand, and opens the other hand to God, deriving his peace, joy and contentment from God; knowing that it is from God that he gets all things, and if anything happens to his acquisitions, he still has God; and his joy, contentment and peace remain intact.

Therefore, everyone that is wise is a builder of treasures in heaven. His mind is on his God and not anything upon the earth that may vanish momentarily. The greedy builds for himself treasures on earth but is never contented. And since he is building on sand, when the storms come, his joy, peace and all are taken from him. He loses all he ever worked for just like that. Of course, the fool lacks treasure anywhere: not on earth, not in heaven. They are those who look to men for everything – they are lazy to work, mindless of God.

The Lord wants us as believers to be wise and build up our treasures in heaven. We must always remember that He is the one that teaches us to get wealth and that He freely gives and may also take at will. If we put our all in Him, then, nothing taken from us should steal our joy, knowing that we have treasures in heaven. Those that are greedy or foolish are invited to embrace Christ that their focus may be shifted to the right storehouse and thereby enjoy bliss in heaven and on earth.

Please pray:

Father, I thank you for the grace to know you and to recognize that I am nothing without you. Grant me wisdom to continue to put you first in all my affairs so that my treasures may abound in heaven and not necessarily in this present world. Let your peace that passes all understanding be mine as well as joy unspeakable even as I remain contented in you, in Jesus’ name. By this token, teach me this day to get wealth sufficient to navigate this planet successfully, in Jesus’ name.

Please share with others. God bless you.
