The Missing Link

Focus: Luke 18:22 - KJV

22. Now when Jesus heard these things, he said unto him, Yet lackest thou one thing: sell all that thou hast, and distribute unto the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, follow me.

1 Timothy 6:17-19

Financial wealth is good. However, when it becomes so lofty that we become so attached to and inseparable from it, then it loses its essence in our lives as humans. It is such wealth that separates between many and their God. They assume they have no need of God because, to them, the bulk of those who seek God seek Him for wealth and since they are already wealthy, what is the need to seek God? Incidentally, the Lord owns the earth and everything in it. There is nothing anyone has as it all belongs to God. Hence, when it becomes difficult to set aside wealth for the sake of God, then they lack something critical to their gaining eternal life.

Like the fellow whom Christ addressed in our focus, there are many today who find it difficult to lay aside what “they have worked for and saved over the years” to satisfy God. Paul is an interesting disciple of Christ. For him, he laid all his gains aside to gain Christ. Those are the things ordinary men cling to and turn their backs on Christ because of. For Nicodemus, he would rather follow Christ from afar and hide in the cover of darkness to see Him. He was ashamed as a ruler of the Jews to be seen with the Christ. For him, wealth is not the hindering factor, but what the people would say. That thing is lacking. Yet, anyone that denies Christ before men shall also be denied of Him in the kingdom.

The Lord is urging us to take the bold step to set aside everything that may stand between us and Himself. It does not matter whether it be wealth, ego or the fear of men. It is really a matter of choice: what is more valuable to us, is it wealth, ego, shame or Christ. It is where a man’s treasures are that his heart would be. Yet an opportunity once lost may be difficult to retrieve. We are to therefore, take hold of the opportunity we have today to follow Christ while He is yet nearby.

Please pray:

Father, I thank you that you are good to me and make me to appreciate that following Christ is better than all the wealth in this current world. Please give me wealth sufficient enough for me to navigate my way through life successfully; and take from me such wealth that will be too much to the extent of preventing me from following you, dear Lord, in Jesus’ name. Please as I follow you, let me have more of you than ever before, in Jesus’ name.

Please share with others. God bless you.
