The Lord As Your Shepherd

Focus: Psalms 23:1 - KJV

1. The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.

Psalms 23:1-6

Those who do have God as their Shepherd have nothing to fear. The job of the shepherd is to preserve and ensure the wellbeing of the flock. Not only does the shepherd take the sheep to its food, he also protects it from the attack of predators. The shepherd also ensures the best of shelter for the flock when the weather is not friendly. David is a good example of a shepherd. He was available to fight the lion and the bear to keep his flock safe. He praised His God with music ensuring that everywhere he was with the flock, there was a greater covering. Unlike the shepherd, there are hirelings who pretend to care for the flock but are only there for what they can get off the sheep personally. As good as the shepherd may be, there is no better shepherd than our God. Even David whom we referenced earlier, had his times that he left the flock to attend to other things, like the time he took lunch to his brothers at the war front. Our God is never like that: He never leaves or forsakes His flock. He is always there shepherding them. The point is, the sheep know the voice of the shepherd and they obey him alone, and none other.

Today, the Lord wants us to know that, though He is not visible to the physical eyes, He is always present to do for the sheep what no other shepherd is able to do. What that suggests is that we need not get unduly scared since we know whom we lean on. Whenever the sheep goes deaf to the directive of the shepherd, it gives the shepherd extra hassles and may end up sticking its limb(s) in some trap before the shepherd reaches it to rescue. The injury may be bound by the shepherd but the pain is primarily that of the sheep. To forestall undue injuries and unnecessary hiccups, it is important for us to stay within the reach of the good Shepherd so that we do not stray from the source of our supplies. All that the sheep requires to survive, the shepherd knows. God is able to supply all our needs according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus. You cannot find a better shepherd than He.

SOLUTION: If you recognize the Lord as your Shepherd, then leave the control of your affairs in His hands. Never again should you head for a place He has not taken you. Learn to recognize the voice of the Lord and obey Him only. Every instruction contrary to the Lord’s should be discountenanced.

Please pray:

·     Thank God for being your provider all the days of your life that He has not allowed you to beg bread

·     Reaffirm to God that you are the sheep of His pasture and that you will never rebel against His directives

·     Tell God what you would love at this time for succor over any hardship you are experiencing

·     Pray God to please ward off all predators from around and about you within a hundred kilometers radius

·     Tell God to help you to draw more sheep into the fold that together you may relish the goodness of the good Shepherd

If you are blessed by this post, kindly share with your contacts, as well as others, that they may be blessed also. Thank you and may God bless you abundantly as you do so, in Jesus’ name.
