The Flourishing

Writer: Jide OlaoreJide Olaore

Focus: Psalms 92:12-13 - KJV

12. The righteous shall flourish like the palm tree: he shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon. 13. Those that be planted in the house of the LORD shall flourish in the courts of our God.

Jeremiah 17:7-11

A plant requires watering to grow and blossom. Whenever there is scarcity of rain, plants dry up and there is said to be a draught. However, even when there is a draught, for as long as there is water in the river, the trees and plants that surround the river obtain nutrients from it and therefore, in all seasons, they never wither. No matter the heat experienced in the dessert, the trees that are by the river thereat always have green leaves and food to offer, in so far as the river flows. This is the position of those that are genuinely planted in the Lord’s vineyard. The Lord is their source and they are bound to flourish always.

In the Old Testament, there were priests and prophets, part of which were Elijah, Elisha, Gehazi and before them, the sons of Eli, and the sons of Samuel. In the eyes of men, all of these were of the Lord and therefore assumed to be planted in the Lord’s vineyard. For Elijah and Elisha, despite the situation around them, they lacked nothing good and blossomed like trees planted by the rivers of water. But for the sons of Eli and the sons of Samuel, they trickily amassed to themselves that which they were not entitled. Even if men assumed they blossomed, they lacked peace and were condemned therefore. Gehazi was worse as he was frontally cursed by his father, despite all the wealth he cornered.

The Lord wants us to know that there is opportunity for us to flourish and blossom if we are of His vineyard. However, He needs us to understand that the flourishing can only be by His own doing and not our cunning activities. What is our profit if the world sees us as flourishing whereas we lack peace on the inside? It is the blessing of God that makes rich without adding sorrow to it. If we acquire wealth and occupy a whole city with it, it profits us nothing if it is not of the Lord.

Please pray:

Lord, I thank you for making me a part of your planting, in your vineyard. You are my source and my Provider. Please, let me never be disconnected from you so that I may never lack nutrient, dear Lord, in Jesus’ name. Let me forever be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, with great fruits and good aroma, in Jesus’ name. Let everyone that sees me appreciate your goodness in my life always, in Jesus’ name.

Please share with others. God bless you.
