Stop The Comparison, Follow Christ

Focus: Matthew 4:19 - KJV

19. And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.

John 21:18-22

Every man made by God has a story written for him by the Lord. Unfortunately, when on earth, many fail to look unto the author of their faith in whose hands their stories are kept. Some go to the extent of wanting to rip pages from the stories of others to add to their own which of course, never fits. For us to fall into proper line with the story purposed for us, we must follow Christ and stop comparing our lives with that of others.

Peter and his friends, like many of us, wanted to write a story for their lives as fishermen even though the script of God for them was to be fishers of men. Christ needed to come to them to redirect them. But a time later came when they decided to return to their own mental scripts. Christ showed up again to redirect them. Only for Peter, when he heard how he was to die, to be asking about how John would die with a view to comparing the two scripts. Christ’s response is instructive: “mind your business and just follow me”, He told him. Many are missing their destiny pointers by acting in the same manner as Peter.

As the story of our lives differ, we are to focus on that for which we are called and stop trying to copy or emulate others. Some are called to just keep gathering fish into the nets while some others are called to do the separation of the good from the bad, to the intent that children would not be taken to the battle of Armageddon, but sons. So, if the sorter decides to be like the gatherer, he misses the point and adds a wrong line or lines to his story. Victory lies only in following Christ and avoiding distractions.

Please pray:

Father, I thank you for the thoughts you have for me are peculiar thoughts of good and not of evil that I may come to an expected end. Please help me to remain focused on you to the very end so that I will not with my own hands destroy the story you have well written for my life, in Jesus’ name. Like you did for Peter and his friends, whenever I appear to be derailing, please show up with your rod and staff to stare me back on course with comfort, in Jesus’ name. Let this day mark the correction of whatever rubbish I may have added to the story of my life, in Jesus’ name.

Please share with others. God bless you.
