Focus: 1 Timothy 4:8 – KJV 8. For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come.
Psalms 37:4-11
Life does not start and end on earth. There is an opportunity to live in eternity with Christ, if we escape the second death. To live on earth, there is need to take charge of our body to keep it healthy. Once the body fails, existence on earth terminates. To keep the body active, there is need to nourish it and exercise it. However, to escape the second death, there is special need to nourish our souls and exercise it by putting the action the extent of the prosperity of our souls. That simply, is to show the instructions of God in our actions and activities which, in other words, is godliness. As beautiful as bodily exercise is, it does not guarantee us eternity in heaven. But the exercise of our souls in godliness will. Hence, it becomes more profitable to dwell on godliness than in physical bodily exercise. No wonder Christ says we should prioritize the Kingdom of God and His righteousness. It is the prosperity of the soul that leads to godliness and contentment in which great gain lies.
Now, if we agree that godliness is more profitable than physical bodily exercise, it cannot be right that we prioritize going to the gym or asserting our bodies in any other way, to seeking how and where to feed our souls with the bread of life. Godliness is an end product of acting on the truth of the word of God. Those who must reign with Christ in eternity are those whom He would adjudge godly when He comes for the saints. Definitely, not necessarily, those with special body physique. By all means, let us keep our bodies healthy by ensuring we do all the necessary stretches but never at the expense of loading up our souls with that which will exculpate it from the trap of death which the enemy has laid for the ungodly. God is faithful. Ungodliness is sin and the soul that sins, it shall die.
The Lord will by His power keep our bodies healthy and in shape so that none of us dies young in Jesus’ name. As He preserves our bodies, may He help in nurturing our souls by taking us always to places where the pasture is greenest to feed on as His sheep in Jesus’ name. And by the nourishment He gives to our souls, may our blossoming be glaring to all henceforth, in Jesus’ name. May the prosperity of our bodies never work against that of our souls in any way, in Jesus’ name. May the Lord keep us unto Himself that we may all escape the second death in the mighty name of Jesus Christ.
SOLUTION: Let your love for God’s word and the zeal to act on it take priority over every other thing. Eternity is true and real.
