14. I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.
1 Corinthians 9:24-27
A believer is meant to be focused on the goal for which he is redeemed and not be distracted by things of no value. Those who are easily distracted are not able to attain the goal for which they are called and thereby forfeit the price. It is quite easy to be distracted by ephemeral things than to keep the focus on the price which matters. Incidentally, such things are regretted in the end by those who pursue them, particularly when they are to leave the same. The price is rather eternal: those who keep the focus begin to enjoy its benefit from now till eternity.
As life is a battle field, when a boxer gets into the ring and the bout starts, until he knocks down the opponent or hears the bell, he does not put down his guard, else he will get hit by a sucker punch. Christ our example was constantly tempted by the enemy who sought to distract Him. He refused to shift focus until He won. Paul has given us also his own perspective of the race of the believer. Distractions are costly and should be avoided in the Christian race.
The Lord will not do more than He is doing to ensure we end up with Him. Anyone that decides to keep his focus on the world as against the one with whom he walks, will stray away and be lost in the journey. Afflictions, tribulations, evil enticement and so on, are sure distractions. No matter what the enemy pushes our ways, we are to maintain focus and press on towards the finish line, so as not to finish in the pit.

Thank you, Lord for setting my feet on the solid rock and the sure path to follow. As I walk with you in this journey, please keep my eyes and mind free from all distraction, that I may not be derailed, in Jesus’ name. Let my walk with you today be glorious and without any failing in my way, in Jesus’ name. In all the places that I had failed in the past, please bring me back in line by the reason of the blood of Jesus, in Jesus’ name. Let this day be full of lifting for me, my family and loved ones, in Jesus’ name.
