3. According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue: 4. Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
2 Peter 1:2-8
There is no gainsaying that to access the power of God, we need to know Him. Yet, His divine power has made available to us all that we require for life and life more abundantly. In God lies His promises for us to activate the said power and unless and until we know, we cannot so access the power. Many will put themselves forth as representing God but do not have the evidence of the power to show that though they live in the world, they belong to another kingdom and realm. Those that carry the divine nature are them that eschew lust in all its ramifications since they are freed from it.
Demas was a follower of Paul and must have been so relied on by Paul for his departure to have been so painful to him. But why did Demas depart? He had been introduced to the divine power but it did not find value in him. Rather than stick with the life that is introduced via the power, he could not align himself with the promises of God and therefore, was lured away by the lust, in the world or better said, his own lust. He loved the world more than the divine power propelled life. Many may speak of Demas today but are more lustful than he was, when put side by side.
God is saying to us that His promises for us are forever settled if we will trust Him for His promises. There is no point having all the promises and leaving them to waste, when we refuse to find the knowledge of the one that has made them available, to properly position ourselves for it. If we will all eschew lust in our daily lives, God by His divine power will cause us to enter into the promises He has for us and take full benefit thereof. What lust does to us is to draw us faraway from our God and those great promises encapsulated in the word of life. Let us draw nearer God today and forsake all other enticements.
Please pray:
Father, I thank you for your power that has made life available to me. Help me to flee from every semblance of lust and evil, in Jesus’ name. Let not anything in this present world be enticing to me more than loving you and obeying your commands, in Jesus’ name. Whatever it is that the enemy may bring my way to deceive me from following you, please let the same fail and fail again forever, in Jesus’ name. Keep me in your promise to the very end in Jesus’ name.
Please share with others. God bless you.
