Look Away

Writer: Jide OlaoreJide Olaore

Focus: Psalms 119:37 - KJV

37. Turn away mine eyes from beholding vanity; and quicken thou me in thy way.

Isaiah 33:14-16

In life, too many vain things are made to glare the face of the individual with a luring that makes him want to grab the vain things which things are tailored to destroy. Unfortunately, those who refuse to turn away their eyes from the vain things end up becoming afraid to face the Lord most high whose eyes do not behold iniquity, and who has prepared everlasting burnings for them that dwell in vanity but prepared bliss in mansions for those who will covenant with their eyes to look away from vanities so as not to be caught in evil.

Elisha was approached by the captain of the Syrian army with vain treasures with a view to trivializing the grace of God that healed his leprosy. But Elisha was graced enough to see the vanity in it and look away. David had failed to turn away from the vanity in the naked skin of Bathsheba and learnt the hard way, only to seek God’s face to do the turning away for him going forward. Gehazi saw his father turn away from vanity but took not wisdom from that to equally turn away. He rather looked to the vain things, coveted and collected them to his own destruction.

It is a grave warning from God to us today that the enemy has decided to parade many more vain things in our glare from now on so that they that fail to turn away may be caught in the fray. We are to seek the help of God to turn away from the poison in the things that ordinarily appear precious to us but are deadly and therefore, vain. As many as will turn away shall be saved from the destruction prepared by the enemy. In this age, it will take the grace of God to readily turn away. Let us therefore seek that grace from today that we may all overcome.

Please pray:

Father, I thank you for the Comforter you have sent to us to help us in our walk with you. I need you Lord to please always turn my eyes away from beholding vanity so that my heart may never be attracted to it, in Jesus’ name. As the eyes form the doorway into the heart, please keep my heart pure by turning my eyes away from vanity always, in Jesus’ name. From this day, give me the grace to reject vanity even if I see them by accident, or thrusted to my full glare by the enemy, in Jesus mighty name.

Please share with others. God bless you.
