Focus: Colossians 1:9-10 - KJV
9. For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding; 10. That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God;
Psalms 1:1-6
The mind of God is to have man as His image. In the image of God, man is able to carry through the will of God to its fullest. Unfortunately, the image was battered in Eden. But because God cannot be defeated by any other force, He will rather have man operate in His will or be ostracized. Hence, the battered image is enjoined to seek the knowledge of God so as to appreciate the will of God and do it. Nonetheless, there is one who has the fullness and depth of the knowledge of God – that is the Spirit of God. God has so crafted things in a way that He gave us Jesus Christ to expound to us the knowledge of the person of God; and when Christ was taken away, the said Spirit was released to us to teach us all things and bring to our remembrance, that which the Lord Jesus taught us.
Now, a convert (that is someone who becomes born again) is said to be born of water and the Spirit. Water being baptism into the death and the resurrection of Christ, and Spirit in the sense that the Holy Spirit, who knows the deep things of God, indwells him, forthwith. This convert starts to develop by learning more about God through the Spirit that dwells in him. He begins to be led by the Spirit into doing that which is the will of God. By walking in the Spirit, the same begins to be filled of Him and through that, starts to bear the fruit of the Spirit. In essence, the fruit of the Spirit is not something we work for, but bear by reason of our affinity with the Spirit. Nonetheless, the fruit is one wholesome fruit and not many fruits. Hence, it is not fruit if we strive to show peace or joy but lack love. That which we express outside of the whole, is primarily based on the flesh. The one who bears the fruit of the Spirit does it wholesomely.
Therefore, the Lord is calling us into attention that it is neither by our power, hustle, might or work that we bear the fruit of the Spirit; it is by our staying fervently in the Spirit and allowing Him to lead us, that we bear the fruit of the Spirit. In other words, it is only those who are fully submissive unto the Spirit that can bear His fruit. Invariably, until we start to manifest that fruit, we are not yet fit and proper to be citizens of the heavenly Kingdom. No! None of us can yet say the standard with which the Lord will judge man. But His acts are borne out of His words. If therefore, He has commanded us to walk in the Spirit so as not to fulfil the works of the flesh, then we need to know that such works will disqualify people from making the Kingdom.
SOLUTION: We need not struggle to please God. Those who are struggling are still fulfilling the works of the flesh. Let us be fully submissive to the Spirit of God to do as He directs us, for as many as are led by the Spirit of God are the sons of God.
Please pray:
· Give thanks to God for giving you the Holy Spirit to direct you as a child of God
· Ask God to please make you know more of Him by His Spirit so that you may cease from fulfilling the lusts of the flesh
· Pray that God will cause you to cease from using your human knowledge instead of the power of the Holy Spirit in fulfilling the will of God
· Pray God to please do all things possible, to ensure that you begin to bear the fruit of the Spirit that you may be with Him in His Kingdom in the end
· Ask for your daily bread for today.
