33. Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners.
1 Corinthians 5:1-8
The Church has allowed itself to be infiltrated by those who are not Christ-like and have refused to allow themselves to be regenerated by the Holy Spirit. It is not new in the body; it was so even in the time of the early apostles. Paul was writing to the Church in Corinth and told them how he had heard that immorality thrived in their midst. Indeed, the abomination of fornication identified amongst the Church then was staggering to Paul as one never mentioned among unbelievers, not to talk of believers. Yet, the Church was not sober enough to want to exculpate the culprit from the midst, allowing his little leaven to leaven many more. When immorality is condoned for one, many others will soon follow suit. Hence, Paul admonished and advised, not like Joshua did to Achan but, that those found in such practice ought to be banished to the devil for him to deal with them for a while, so that the flesh in them may be scorched and removed that the spirit may gain prominence in them and thereby be restored to the fold. That was the old order.
Today, not only do leaders bath an eye when evil is being perpetrated by supposed members of the body, for as long as the evil doers understand how to manage the leaders and give them what they desire, they are even promoted in the ranks and saddled with greater responsibilities to the intent that others, who know their immorality, look on and assume it is not bad to be immoral after all. No wonder, evil communication as well as immorality have become the order of the day where the Lord expects bright shining. Rather than the light of the Church to shine unto the world that the heathen may see it and come in, the world sees filthiness that is even worse at times than what they practice, beaming at them from within the Church. The salt that is meant to cure decay has thus lost its savor and therefore, compounding the decay.
The Lord is calling us to a reawakening today as members of His body, the Church. If His Kingdom must come on earth as it is in heaven, it starts with the purity of the Church and the sanctity thereof. The vessel through which the Lord would reign on earth must be clean. We are therefore to ensure that we expunge all leaven that the whole lump may be healthy. No, we are not to send people out from the Church of God; but we are to work on them that are so polluted and evil minded such that they do not occupy positions of authority or appear as role models within the fold. They should rather be made to return to learn more about God and godliness so that they may be purged of the flesh and that they may yield to the spirit instead, going forward. Never be counted among them that are leavened like the Pharisees. Bring forth fruit worthy of the Kingdom of God.
SOLUTION: Let us be practical about keeping the Church of God clean by not covering up immorality and evil works within the body. Where we see them, we should stare clear of them so that their deeds do not rob off on us by association.
Please pray:
· Give thanks to God for birthing His Church for us as vehicle through which His Kingdom will be replicated on earth as it is in heaven
· Pray that the Lord Himself by His Spirit would purge the Church of immorality and every evil work
· Pray that the Lord will cause the purveyors of immorality in the Church to repent and come to His saving grace
· Ask God to turn you into His agent of reformation for the Church that she may be fully restored to her position as light of the world
· Ask for your daily bread today
