Focus: John 5:17 - KJV
17. But Jesus answered them, My Father worketh hitherto, and I work.
1 Corinthians 12:4-8
Moses recorded in the beginning that God did the works of creation for six days and rested on the seventh day. This is made to sound like, if there was a child of God in danger or His creature falls into a situation, God would do nothing concerning it on the seventh day. Hence, when the Lord required that the seventh day, being the sabbath should be kept holy, it was enforced to mean no manner of work be done in it. That does not however, appear to be the mind of God as He made the sabbath for man so that he could rest and not get blown out or stressed, through unending work, and not man for the sabbath. It is therefore not the mind of God that man should be callous and not lift a finger on the sabbath even when it means being one’s brother’s keeper, or rescuer in time of need.
This, the Lord Jesus Christ, the one who carried the Godhead bodily, demonstrated when He was on the face of the earth in order to correct our perspective of the sabbath. He would not because it was sabbath refrain from healing the sick or releasing those in bondage or under the heavy yoke of the devil. But to those who did not understand the mind of God, they assumed Jesus was in some form of infraction against the will of God. To them Jesus explained that the Father worked hitherto, and that He works, suggesting that while He was on earth, He worked too. And upon His departure from the earth, the Holy Spirit whom He asked the father to send to us also works. The work He does is endless in us. As the Spirit wars with the flesh for our souls, if He pauses work at any time, then will the flesh take us over completely. It is the Spirit that works in us in the current dispensation and it is acclaimed that the same God works all things in us all.
The Lord wants us to know that in keeping the sabbath holy we cannot abstain from love which is demonstrated by being our brother’s keeper. Rest is a thing that helps us regain steam and reset our metabolism to be able to function well going forward and it is good to obey the injunction of God to keep the sabbath holy. It is holy to show love and fold not our hands when we can offer assistance by stretching it forth even on the sabbath. God has never ceased from working towards keeping us in godliness and He is not about to cease. If we believe that Jesus is His representative to show us the true mind of God, then we are to follow that which Christ as shown us. There is no displeasing God when we follow the way of Christ.
SOLUTION: Keep the sabbath holy by not laboring for gains, and use the day as much as possible in honoring God. It does not however mean we are to abstain from showing love on the sabbath when duty calls for us to do so.
Please pray:
· Give thanks to God for the grace to know Him and to value His apportioned day of rest
· Ask God to please by His Spirit teach you to know how to observe the sabbath correctly and not be in error by wanting to please Him wrongly
· Pray that the Holy Spirit teaches you all things and when not to fold your hands so as to operate in love, always
· Pray that God gives you divinely assured rest so that you do not encounter a burn out for any reason
· Ask for your daily bread for today
