God’s Word Is Life

Focus: Proverbs 4:20-22 - KJV

20. My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings. 21. Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart. 22. For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh.

Proverbs 2:1-22

The Lord established it, and it is so settled, that man’s living is not by bread or food alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of the Lord. This is because every word that comes from God is a guide into the light away from gruesome darkness. There is no part of the word of God that directs anyone to perdition or destruction. Those who find the word and apply it accordingly, are afforded life and that, in abundance. Those who ignore the word do so at their own peril for it is like being on the high sea and neglecting the compass. For such, the tendency is to continue to sail without direction or progress.

A prophet once found the word of God and went to prophesy in Samaria to the extent that when the king of the land sought to hurt him by stretching forth his hand against him, the hand withered and he needed to entreat God on behalf of the king for the hand to be restored. That is life by the word. But when the same prophet failed to fully apply the word that was given to him by staying back to eat where he was forbidden to do so, he met his doom and waterloo for so doing. That is the fate of those who trample on God’s word.

The Lord wants us to take His word seriously for it is the same that affords us life when we find it. The hazards of life are too daunting, particularly at this time, for anyone to turn deaf ear to the word of God. If we must live and live truly, then we need the word of God always and to hearken unto it. Deviating from it is to court trouble unto ourselves. Let us therefore seek the Lord and His word to do as it directs, so that we may live and have life in abundance.

Please pray:

Lord, I love you. Thank you for your word unto me and the grace to obey. Please help me to hear you clearly without ambiguity that I may always obey and stand in your word. Do let your word shine unto my paths that I may make rapid progress in life; and do not let me depart from your instruction that I may not end up in darkness, in Jesus’ name. Please give me a retentive heart for your word always, in Jesus’ name.

Please share with others. God bless you.
