Focus: James 2:19-20 - KJV
19. Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble. 20. But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?
1 Samuel 17:20-40
Except the scientists and people with deluded minds who say there is no God, almost every human on earth agrees that there is one God. The point of departure is in the description and characteristics of the one God. Hence, for a believer to profess one God is not anything out of the ordinary, because even those who are not believers state the same. But to prove that the God whom the believer professes is the true and only God, the believer must be able to show that his is a living and true God. For, even the worshippers of Baal in the days of Elijah believed that theirs was God. However, after the contest between them and Elijah, the works of Elijah showed that his is the true God because He is alive and answers His own.
If the believer fails to prove his faith in God through his works, he is not different from every other person that has a belief in one God albeit a non-existent one. When David appeared on the battle field where Goliath tormented the army of Israel, the Israeli army like David believed in the existence of one God whom they called the God of Israel. But at the sound of the voice of the Philistine champion, they all quivered and behaved like dogs that hid their tails between their hind legs. But for David, they may all have been killed. However, because David’s work was where his mouth and faith were, he moved against the Philistine and got the backing of God to slay him, just like Elijah got supported on Carmel. If David, like the Israeli army, had failed to step forward with bold work, he would have been slain in the battle, or at least flee therefrom.
The Lord is saying to us today to step forward to work out our faith by doing that which is necessary for the actualization thereof. Jesus had said we are able to tell mountains to move if we believe and do not doubt. Your work that is predicated upon your faith in God, must be carried out without any iota of doubt. When Peter took the bold step to walk on water because of the faith he had in Christ, he did walk until he began to doubt and started to sink. Hence, even though as believers, we have faith in the living God, that faith is of no effect if we do not work it for all to see, without doubting. Those who doubt say thereby, “we are not sure that God is, indeed”. And without such unflinching faith, we cannot expect God’s backing in any endeavor.
SOLUTION: Let us prove our faith with our works that our God may be glorified in us. A doubter is like the wave of the sea who is unstable in any matter. Let us be stable in our faith in God so He can back us up in all matters.
Please pray:
· Give thanks to God for a sound mind that recognizes the person of the true God
· Pray God to grant you the boldness to stand always in your faith whenever you are called upon to do so
· Ask God to please always minister to you by His Spirit to take the right steps and actions whenever your faith in Him is called to action
· Pray that God will help many more to have the knowledge of Himself, the true God, in this generation and generations to come
· Ask for your daily bread today
