Focus: John 5:24 - KJV
24. Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.
Matthew 17:1-9
In the words of the Lord Jesus Christ Himself, anyone that hears Him and believes in the one who sent Him has eternal life. But what is it to believe in the one who sent Him? From the time man fell in the garden, the Lord had sent messengers in men to represent Him with a view to having man transformed from his crass evil ways. None of those sent had fully pleased God and therefore, did not have the special commendation of God. Then came Jesus the Christ. One day, He was transfigured in the presence of witnesses and two people representing all those that were sent before Him appeared to the witnesses: Moses as representative of the law and all the messengers in that light, and Elijah representing all the prophets. For the avoidance of doubt, the Lord spoke to the hearing of those witnesses affirming Christ as the one we all should hear and not necessarily those who came in the line of the law or the prophets.
It follows that anyone who wants eternal life ought to obey God who presented Christ as His beloved Son in whom He is well pleased and said we should hear Him. A refusal to hear and follow the words of Christ is therefore a rejection of God and His representative, Jesus Christ. So, obeying and following the words of Christ is simply believing in the one who sent Him and said we should hear Him. The reason Christ emphasized this is because of the unrepentant hangers on to the doctrines of the purveyors of the law and those of the prophets using the same to undermine the words of the Lord Jesus Christ, which God recommended to us for salvation and eternal life. Hence, those who reject the word of Christ throw away the instruction of God and therefore, draw condemnation unto themselves.
There is no gainsaying that the word of Christ is the word of life for He even told us that His words are Spirit and life. If we must be pleasing unto God, we are to run our lives based on the stipulates in the word of Christ and not necessarily that of any prophet or law merchant. Moses once said some people ought not to die as men die and caused their death; meanwhile the mind of God is that none should die but come to repentance. So, it is not the mind of God that we should hearken to such a messenger but the one in whom He is well pleased. Let us therefore be clear about whom God has approved, in whom we have redemption and satisfy our God, by listening to and doing that which He commands.
SOLUTION: Jesus is the way that God has shown us and we ought to follow that way only. A mixture of the doctrines of the fathers with the words of Jesus is a misnomer that leads to disobedience of God. Only the words of Jesus can bring us to redemption and eternal life.
Please pray:
· Give thanks to God for the clarity He has given us about Christ and His words that lead to life
· Pray that the words of Christ would do much more work of salvation in the lives of men this end times than ever before
· Please pray that everything causing men to be confused about whom to follow and what words to hold on to be cleared of the Lord forthwith
· Ask that God will make the benefit of the words of Christ to begin to show in your life and that of every believer from now on better than ever
· Please ask for your daily bread
