Christ’s Novel Priesthood

Writer's picture: Jide OlaoreJide Olaore

Focus: Hebrews 7:24-25 - KJV

24. But this man, because he continueth ever, hath an unchangeable priesthood. 25. Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them.

Hebrews 7:23-28

Jesus Christ came to earth to wrest the reins of the earth from the hands of the devil as a Son of man. In approaching the task, He stood between us and the father to plead our cause. When eventually He paid the ransom for our guilty charge, He became the high priest of our salvation having shed His blood for us as the sacrificial Lamb and at the same time the priest. From that time till judgment, He remains our High Priest having bought us over by His blood and none can take His Lordship over us away. By His Lordship over us, Christ intercedes unendingly for us before the father for the sake of His blood.

The place of the priest as represented by the Levites, was to stand between the man sinner and God for as long as that priest lives. Incidentally, such a priest could die even in the course of intercession if he was not clean himself, and there, his priesthood would end. Christ’s priesthood is never like that: even after laying down His life, He continues to intercede on our behalf, particularly those who have received Him and live according to His tenets. Like Melchizedek, His priesthood does not change; it has no beginning, neither ending.

The Lord invites us to understand today that we have no basis to fear sin. First, the unchanging priest has cleared the sin man was born into in Adam; then for as long as we have Him as Lord, He keeps interceding on our behalf to forestall our receding into darkness. Hence, whenever we find ourselves in error that is capable of returning us to darkness, since our High Priest is unchanging, we only need to hide under Him for intercession and forgiveness with a promise not to return to the error.

Please pray:

Father, we thank you for our High Priest who is before you, ever interceding for us. We tap into the grace in His priesthood that never changes today, and ask that you please hearken to Him regarding our iniquities to forgive us of them all, and keep us far away from darkness and every issue thereof, in Jesus’ name. Let your light perpetually shine on us because of the priesthood of our Lord before you, in Jesus’ name. Keep us away from iniquity by your Spirit so we may not offend you ever again, in Jesus’ name.

Please share with others. God bless you.
