Christ’s Brethren

Focus: Romans 8:29 - KJV

29. For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.

Ephesians 1:5-12

It is a glorious thing for us to know that we belong to the family of the Most High God. It is however important that we check from time to time whether we conform to the image of the Lord Jesus Christ, who is the template that we have for gauging sonship. Unless we so conform, we stand out amongst the conforming brethren like a sore thumb and cannot truly say we belong to the very same family.

The image of the Son is the image of the father. The Son was released to us to show us example of how to reflect the person of the Father. The Father is Light, He is Love, He is a Spirit and He is a Consuming fire. All of this are evident in the Son. The Lord has predestined us to be of the same form to fit into His family. The wherewithal for conformity has been made available to us, by the Spirit of God. Yes, there are failings because of the flesh, from time to time. Unless we deal with such failings, it is difficult to truly conform and be reckoned as Christ’s brethren.

The Lord today is showing His readiness and eagerness, if you like, to embrace each of us as His true children, in the similitude of Christ. But it becomes difficult to embrace those who do not conform. If He did not embrace Christ on the cross while He bore our sin, how do we imagine He would embrace us while still bearing the filth of sin. He is therefore, inviting us to strive to conform to the image of Christ, His dear Son, so that we may be embraceable. All we need to do is allow the Holy Spirit to work in and through us by doing only those things the Lord approves.

Please pray:

Thank you, Lord for adopting me into your family to be part of the brethren of Christ. Help me therefore by your Spirit to conform to the image and not be a drop out ever, in Jesus’ name. I curry your embrace forever, Lord; please hold me in your embrace that I may forever bear your light, in the name of Jesus. By the reason of your embrace, do let everything that is not of you in my life and being, fall off today, in Jesus’ name.

Please share with others. God bless you.
