7. If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.
John 14:12-14
Prior to His ascension to heaven, Jesus told His followers clearly, the signs that would follow the believers. Prominent among His pronouncement was the phrase “in my name”. Believers have clear approval to ask things in Jesus’ name and see them manifest ranging from the believer’s will, his wants and what he desires for others. But the believer is only accorded such privilege because he abides in the Lord. Abiding is sticking with and in the Lord, not having been discarded or sprue out of Him. A person who abides is one whom the Word of God resides in to put to use regularly, and not just those who profess Christ but lack His word.
When Peter began to abide properly in Christ without the mind to go about fishing in the natural waters, he began to ask what he would and God did it for him. He started by asking in the name of Jesus that the lame man by the beautiful gate should rise and walk and God honored it. He asked in Jesus’ name that Dorcas should rise and God honored that also. In fact, without really asking or without us having record of his asking, God granted his release from prison through angelic visitation. He went about rightly dividing the word of truth because he bore in himself the word of Christ.
The Lord is inviting us to a new life of greatness and glory in Himself, if we will accept today to truly abide in Him and let His word abide in us. It is never out of place for the works that Christ did and even greater works to start showing through us. That will only happen if we stick with Christ and refuse to be separated from Him or His word in any way or at all. How awesome will it be for someone considered to be an ordinary believer to ask in Jesus’ name, in a market square, that a known demoniac be loosed and it happens? That is someone’s very next testimony and God is ready to bring it to bear if only we will fully believe Him to abide in Him.
Please pray:
Thank you, father for the grace to be fused into you and retain your word in me. Let the power in your word that dwells in me, move me from today to start delivering the oppressed in your name and ask for things that seem impossible before men and have them happen, in Jesus’ marvelous name. Kindly make this day the beginning of a new and better life for me, in Jesus’ name.
Please share with others. God bless you.
