Focus: 1 John 5:14-15 - KJV
14. And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us: 15. And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.
1 John 3:21-23
The major problem men have in the place of prayer is asking amiss. We ask amiss when we refuse or fail to ask according to the will of God. When we ask and we receive of him, it is because we do those things that are pleasing in his sight. His will is simply that we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as he gave us commandment. Hence, any asking which is outside of love, is outside His will and tantamount to asking amiss. Those things asked with a view to oppressing others with, are asked amiss. Prayers made that people we are called to love may die, offend His will.
People had prayed in the past to kill others and their victims had died. Of course, they had believed their prayers were answered and therefore, rejoiced. But prayers outside the will of God are not responded to by Him. As there are two pillars in the realms, so does the prayer made goes to either part of the realms it is directed. God will not answer the prayers against His will. The fellow on the other side might step into it with a view to presenting it as God’s answer. For the sake of righteousness, Elijah prayed against and later for rain, and God answered. Then, he called fire down and it came. The whole world of scripture readers took it that it was God that released the fire. Yet, it was not.
Let us begin to ask according to the will of God so that we may receive and solve many of the issues keeping our heads bowed. We need however, to ensure always that we do not pray to the devil by first checking whether our asking dovetails into love or not. The fact that our wishes are accomplished in “prayer” is no proof of doing the will of God. Prayers are being said regularly by diverse people all over the world. Some to God who is true, others to some other beings whom they assume is God. Everyone comes back at times to say his prayers are answered. The problem then is: who answered; God or the other? For us, since we do know our God, let us be careful always to ask in accordance with His will.
Please pray:
I thank you Lord for all that you have been doing for me. Thank you for the grace to know your will. I ask today that you please prosper me so that I may take better care of the needy in society than I have been doing. Please watch over all the widows and the orphans around that they may not live in despair. Do please let all wars cease forthwith and by so doing put an end to the killing of brothers by brothers, in Jesus’ name. Let the world experience peace like a river from today in the name of Jesus Christ.
Please share with others. God bless you.
